Harry D. "Dan" Walter, 75, of White Hall, Arkansas, went to join the Saints, Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 27, 1933, in Samples to Hartwell Daniel and Annie Matilda Billingsley Walter.
Dan was reared and educated in White Hall, graduating from White Hall High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He served a a Pine Bluff fireman for many years before going to work for the Union Pacific Railroad from which he retired after 27 years.
Dan was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Jacob Brump Lodge #160. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene M. McNeil Walter, whom he married on April 20, 1963, in Pine Bluff; his parents; a stepson, Jack L. Ryals; one brother, Michael Costello; three sisters, Hartie Bell Bost, Lucy Cannon and Louise Waddle.
Survivors include a daughter, Stacey Dawn Leder and her husband Sam of Benton; four brothers, Henry Walter of Pine Bluff, Bud Walter of Dumas, Lum Walter of California, John Walter of Texarkana, Arkansas; two sisters, Josie Graves, Catherine Hubbard both of Pine Bluff; two granddaughters, Sara Bryn Leder of Benton, Heather Brooke Ryals Walter and her husband David of Pine Bluff; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Brooke Walter of Pine Bluff; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends whose lives were enriched by his friendship.
Dan never met a stranger. He will be remembered for his easy-going manner, unselfish spirit and fun-loving personality.
