Henry Walter

Henry H. Walter, 90, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Walter was born Oct. 17, 1917, in Jefferson, Ark., to the late Hartwell and Jessie Mullins Walter.

He was reared and received his education in White Hall. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1941.

He married Margaret Crowder on June 12, 1941, in Sheridan. She passed away on Jan. 19, 1994.

Mr. Walter was a clerk for Cotton Belt Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1979. He also owned and operated Henry Walter's Used Cars for 50 years.

Mr. Walter is survived by four sons, Kyle Walter of Drasco, Ark., Danny Walter of Pine Bluff, and Glen Walter of Fort Worth, Texas, Alan Walter of Paragould, Ark.; three daughters, Voletta "Leta" Chavis of Rye, Ark., Fran Owens of Dallas, Texas, and Dell Higgins of Fairmont, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bud Walter of Dumas, Ark., John Walter of Texarkana, Ark., and Lum Walter of Chowchilla, Calif.; and two sisters, Cathern Hubbard and Josie Graves, both of Pine Bluff.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Walter; two brothers, Cos Walter and Dan Walter; and three sisters, Lucy Cannon, Hartie B. Bost, and Louise Waddle.

The family will receive friends today, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Robinson's.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. James Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
