Husband of Louisa Jane (McCollum) Dailey Steen French (1860-1909) who died at age 48. Louisa was only 18 when they married. William was 62 at the time. Louisa would be the mother of four children with William: Mary, Effie, Ruth and Earl Dailey. She would also be the stepmother of William's children from his first two marriages. Many of William's children were actually older than Louisa. Altogether, William was the father of at least fourteen children.

William's first wife was Mary (Collins) Dailey (1828-1850) who died at age 22. William's children with Mary included Amanda and Elijah Dailey. His second wife was Eunice Blair (Woodman) Strain Dailey (1827-1878) who died at age 54. His children with Eunice included Lucy, John, Roxa, E. Loretta, Ethan, Leander, Sidney and William Dailey. He married Mary in 1844, Eunice in 1851 and Louisa in 1879.

William was the son of John Wiley Dailey and Mary (Deviese) Dailey.
