After extensive research, it is believed that Hannah is the daughter William C. Looney and Nancy Looney.
DNA test results have confirmed beyond a reasonable doubt that James Knox Looney was the brother of Hannah Elizabeth Looney. The family story that has been passed down to the descendants of James Knox Looney was that James Knox Looney's father fought for the Confederacy and died at Vicksburg. William C. Looney is the only Looney that has been found thus far who died at Vicksburg.
William C. Looney was born out of wedlock to William "Gravely Bill" Looney and Julia Looney. William "Gravely Bill" Looney was born out of wedlock to William M. Looney and Sarah Felkner / Feltner. Julia Looney was the daughter of Benjamin "Big Ben" Looney and Elizabeth McClure.
Nancy Looney was a Mulatto slave who was "owned" by the William Carroll Looney family during the time that James Knox Looney and Hannah Elizabeth Looney were born. Both James Knox Looney and Hannah Elizabeth Looney would have been born into slavery as Mulatto slaves "owned" by the William Carroll Looney family.
Hannah married William Thomas Browning on 18 Nov 1877 in Hawkins County, Tennessee. Together Hannah and William Thomas had the following children: Mclellen "Mac" (who died young), Alexander "Alex" Riley Browning, a child of unknown name (who died young), Rosa "Rose" Ella Browning, Minnie Jane "Jane" Browning, James "Jim" M. Browning, and William Arthur "Arthur" Browning.
