Daughter of William Thomas "Tom" Browning and Hannah E Looney. Sister to Alex Riley Browning, Rose Marie Browning, James "Jim" M Browning, and William Arthur "Arthur" Browning. Mother of Hayburn Rube "Rube" Browning, Sr. Minnie Jane's father worked as a farmer as she grew up.

Jane was born in Fairview, Scott County, Virginia. She later moved to Stonega, Wise County, Virginia and Yokum Station, Lee County, Virginia as her brothers sought work in the coal mines. She and her family later moved to Harlan County, Kentucky as new coal mines opened up in that area. Minnie Jane worked as a servant in order to take car of the needs of her only child, a son named Haburn Rube Browning. Jane followed her son to Louisville, Kentucky in early 1954. Her son and shortly thereafter she moved to Louisville in order to escape the hardships, dangerous work, and low pay associated with the coal mining industry.

Jane died in Louisville at her son's home (with whom she was living with at the time). Funeral Services were handled by Embry-Bosse Funeral Home.
