Walter Adkins, 74 of Winfield passed away at his home Friday night. He was postmaster and a merchant in Winfield for a number of years and was also a prominent farmer in the area. He was the son of the late Henry and Mary Phillips Adkins and was a member of the Clay Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Flora Cross Adkins and one son Zola L. Adkins both of Winfield; one daughter Mrs. Orpha Litton of Waynesboro, Ga.; one foster daughter Mrs. Nace Jane Ashcraft of Williamstown, Ky. Four sisters Mrs. Grace Terry of Oneida; Mrs. Zilah Davis, Mrs. Ethel Chitwood and Mrs. Ruth Daugherty all of Winfield; Five brothers Ada Adkins of Blue Ash, Ohio, Francis Adkins, Andrew Adkins, Hilleary Adkins and Herman Adkins all of Winfield. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Clay Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Walker and Rev. Okis Morris officiating. Interment was in Cross Cemetery.
