Evelyn Irene Fenter is my mother. She is buried in Willamette National because she is the wife of a Veteran, my dad, Eugene Walter Fenter, who is the Veteran. The spouse of a Veteran is allowed to be buried in the same military cemetery even though she did not serve in the military. Therefore, her memorial page should NOT be marked as a Veteran. Not all people buried in Willamette national are Veterans, but their spouse was. Evelyn Irene DID NOT SERVE in the Military.

My mother, Evelyn Campbell, was born in Spokane, Washington. Her mother, Arlene Geraldine (Steele or Steel) Campbell, had a very hard life, doing the best she could raising the 5 children, almost always by herself, 3 sons and 2 daughters. Two of Arlene's daughters were stillborn, and Norma LaVaughn only lived 9 months. She died of cholera. Evelyn was child number 8 and the last child born to John and Arlene Campbell. My mom told me that her mother had prayed at her birth that if she was not going to accept Jesus as her personal Saviour, that she would not live. Her mother prayed the same prayer at the birth of first child, Vernon. Both my mom, Evelyn, and her brother, Vernon, did accept Jesus as their personal Saviour.

Evelyn loved music. She was taking singing lessons and piano lessons. Her mother said she could not pay for both, so she had to choose between them. Evelyn chose singing lessons. Evelyn was in the music program in high school in The Dalles, Oregon. She also sang in her church choir, sang solos, and in duets, trios and quartets. She became the choir director in several of the churches she attended throughout her life.

She went to work in the clothing departments of several different stores, and worked in a couple of office jobs, one being for an insurance company. For a short period of time, she worked as a Nurses Aid, before that job title was called a practical nurse. She also worked as the church secretary in a couple of the churches she attended in Portland. She was also a Sunday School teacher. When her church sponsored some Asian families, Evelyn would help them settle in, taking them shopping for groceries, help them with their banking, teaching the ladies to use sewing machines and planning social gatherings at the church and in her home for them. She was always ready to share her faith and Jesus with anyone.

Evelyn was very outgoing and friendly, not wanting anyone to feel left out.
