Joseph W. Haskell died at Anadarko, OK, Monday, September 25, 1905, at 1:30 a.m., and was buried at that place in the afternoon. He had been sick but about 12 hours. He attended church Sunday forenoon and was attacked with gastritis on his way home. Four physicians were in attendance but no relief could be given and he passed away at 1:30 the next morning.
He was born in Indiana about 45 years ago. He came to Butler County with his father in the seventies and resided here until moving to Anadarko, OK, 4 years ago. He was married to Miss Emma Snodgrass in October 1884. When the Kiowa and Comanche country opened to settlement, he secured a claim near Anadarko, OK, and moved his family there at that time. At the election last fall, he was nominated by the Republicans for and elected to the office of county treasurer of Caddo County and had recently moved from the farm to the town of Anadarko, and would have taken charge of the treasurer's office the 15th of next month.
During his residence in this county, he had been active in Republican politics and public affairs and had been the candidate of his party for county office twice. He was a member of the Christian Church, the Masons, and Modern Woodmen of America.
A wife and 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters survive him. The oldest is a boy 19 years and the youngest being 6 years old.
