Funeral services were held at the Campbell Funeral Home for Mrs. Dorathea Margaretha Ahrendsen, Monday afternoon, May 15, at1 p.m. With the Rev. W.T. Boston in charge.
Dorathea Margaretha, daughter of Hans H. and Margaretha Guebels Rohwedder, was born January 30, 1871, on the farm home near Brunswick, Chariton county, Mo. In 1880 the family moved to Clinton county, Iowa, where the mother died the same year. Dorathea remained at home until her marriage on January 1, 1892, to Hans C. Ahrendsen.
The home was made on farms in Jones county. Seven children were born to this union, all of whom survive. Mr. Ahrendsen died on September 1, 1908. Mrs. Ahdrendsen kept her children on the home farm for nearly 15 years. She later moved to Olin where she made her home with her son, Carl, for the remainder of her life, with the exception of six years spent in Wyoming.
She was a member of the Olin Sunshine club and the Royal Neighbors. Last December she suffered a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered. She died at the home of her daughter in Olin on May 12, having passed the age of 73 years.
Those who mourn her departure include her seven children; Margaretha, Mrs. T.M. Starry, Olin; Leonard, Wyoming; Mrs. August Ingwersen, Olin; Carl, Olin; Hans, Cleveland, Ohio; Arthur, Wyoming; and Anita, Mrs. Dean Sarby Olin; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Von Sprecken, Innes, Saskatchewan Canada; and Johanna, Mrs. Hans Ketelsen, Montivedeo, Minn.; three half-brothers, Louis, John and Henry Rohwedder; two half-sisters, Margaret, Mrs. August Levsen and Mathilda, Mrs. Lawren Ahrendsen, 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Mrs. Leon Stivers sang, "The Perfect Day", accompanied at the piano by Mrs. H.E. Stuart. Pallbearers were Irvin, Carl, Marvin and Hans Rohwedder; Hans Ahrendsen and John Levsen.
