Miss Estella B. Witmer, 99 a resident of Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, and formerly of 119 1/2 W. Third St., Waynesboro, died at 10:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 1994, in the nursing home. She became critically ill Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Born Aug. 27, 1894, in Beaver Creek, Md., she was the daughter of the late David Elmer and Ida (Burger)Witmer. She lived her early life in Beaver Creek, and moved to the Waynesboro area at age 11. She entered the nursing home in October 1987.

Miss Witmer graduated from Quincy High School with the Class of 1912. She then graduated from Shippensburg Normal School, now Shippensburg University, with the Class of 1916. She received a degree in education from Pennsylvania State College in 1932.

She taught one year at the Mont Alto Elementary School, then three years at the Enhaut School in Dauphin County. She taught of 376 years at the Washington Township Elementary School and the Washington Township High School before retiring in the late 1950s.

Miss Witmer was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, and its Ladies Sunday School.

She also was a member of the Franklin County Education Association and the Pennsylvania Retired Teacher Association.

She is survived by one niece, Dorothy C. Johnson of Pompano Beach, Fla.; one grandnephew; and a number of cousins.

She was the last of her immediate family, and was preceded in death by two sisters.
