Mr. James Evans Brooks, 77, of Wootton Ave., Poolesville, died Thursday, Aug. 16, at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda.

He was the husband of Anna Titus Brooks.

Born to Garrett Park, Mr. Brooks was a son of the late Lewis F. and Mary Catherine Litton Brooks.

Before his retirement, Mr. Brooks was employed by the Montgomery County government and was a farmer. He was a member of the Poolesville United Memorial Methodist Church, the Georgetown Kiwanis Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose 371, Frederick. He was also a member of the Poolesville Town Board.

Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters; Mrs. Joyce K. Nusbaum, Boonsboro, and Mrs. Helen L. Johnston, Taneytown; five sons, James F. Brooks of Silver Spring, Donald E. Brooks of Gaithersburg, John E. Brooks and Robert Lewis Brooks, both of Poolesville, and Raymond K. Brooks, Clarksburg; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie B. Shepherd of Jackson, S.C.. Mrs. Beulah B. Brubaker of Takoma Park, and Mrs. Elsie B. Moore, Bethesda; one brother, Boyd S. Brooks, Bethesda; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7- 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18 and 19, at the Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, from the Poolesville United Memorial Methodist Church, Poolesville. The Rev. Weller Lewis Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery. Beallsville. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Poolesville United Memorial Methodist Church, Poolesville, Md 20837.
