Homer died, apparently from a heart-attack brought on by hypothermic shock. He had been digging a storm cellar in the July heat and jumped in a cold spring to cool off. The sudden change in body temperature must have caused him to have a heart attack and he died a few hours later, surrounded by his family.
He was a member of the Free Holiness Church.
