Homer Pearl Guffey was the son of Ephraim Monroe & Susan Elizabeth Willmon Guffey. He married Eula Myrtle Gibson on July 17, 1912, in Marshall County. To this union was born three children - Eula Pearl (1913), Dolly Mae (1915), and Allie Irene (1917).

Homer died, apparently from a heart-attack brought on by hypothermic shock. He had been digging a storm cellar in the July heat and jumped in a cold spring to cool off. The sudden change in body temperature must have caused him to have a heart attack and he died a few hours later, surrounded by his family.

He was a member of the Free Holiness Church.
