Roy Freeman Guffey was born September 6, 1904, near the Swearengin Community of Marshall County, Alabama, to Ephraim Monroe and Susan Elizabeth Willmon Guffey.
Roy married Floy Dick, daughter of Little Bixie & Lizzie Dick, on February 26, 1922, in Marshall County. They were married by Tom Perry, a Free Holiness Minister.
Roy and Floy were well known singers in the Free Holiness Churches and surrounding communities. They sang at hundreds of funerals through the years. They were members of the Oak Grove Holiness Church, where Roy served as pastor for a number of years - though he never claimed to be a minister.
