William Berry Guffey was the son of Ephraim Monroe & Susan Elizabeth Willmon Guffey.

Will married Flossie Annie Lee Shively on October 11, 1908. Flossie was the daughter of Frank Shively and the former Miss Fanni J. Lloyd; however, she was mostly raised by her grandparents, Andrew Jackson & Mandy Lloyd.

Will and Flossie were the parents of twelve children - William Franklin, Lala Nell (McLain), Robert Jesse, Idas Windel, Herman Elias, Edith Elnora (House), Lona Mae (Spurgeon), Fred Ephraim, Ruth Ellen (Higdon), Troy Weldon, Odie Cledis, and Nolan.

Will was a Free Holiness preacher. In the late 1930's, he settled on North Sand Mountain in Alabama, where he worked to establish the Mount Olive Free Holiness Church (now, Higdon Free Holiness Church). Will was pastor here until his health began to fail in the 1970's. He passed away on June 14, 1977, and was laid to rest in the New Prospect Cemetery.
