W. E. LAMBIRTH
William Earl Lambirth, 70, of 409 N. Madison Ave., Ottumwa, died Thursday at the St. Joseph hospital in Ottumwa. The son of Joseph and Susan Caviness Lambirth, he was born June 17, 1892, in Lucas county, Iowa.
He was married to Bessie Williby on June 13, 1910, in Des Moines. The family moved from Chariton to Ottumwa in 1941.
Mr. Lambirth was employed by the C. B. & Q. Railroad for 49 years and was an engineer at the time of his retirement in 1961.
He was a member of the Burlington Veterans club, a past president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and of the Masonic Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A. M. at Ottumwa.
He is survived by four daughter: Mrs. Ella Hall, Ottumwa; Mrs. Marlene Wertz, Bloomfield; Mrs. Winifred Emanuel, Ottumwa; and Mrs. Barbara Anderson, Bellevue, Neb.; four sons: Ralph, Kennewick, Wash.; Earl G., Fullerton, Calif.; Woodrow, Quincy, Calif.; and Kenneth, Kennewick, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie in 1960, a daughter, Gretchen in 1944, two sisters and three brothers.
Services were Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Davis Street Christian church in Ottumwa, the Rev. LaVerne Morris officiating. Graveside services were at 3:30 p.m. at the Chariton Cemetery.
