(Ref: THE CARLSBAD CURRENT-ARGUS, Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico, dated for about August 30, 1984, reads as follows:

PRUIT

Services for Virgil L. Pruit, 75, of 909 Sandia St. will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the West Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Prock of the First Baptist Church officiating. Pruit died Thursday in the local hospital.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Moore, J.C. Davis, Ray Thomas, M.L. McIlroy, Delos Lumbert and Dewey Pace.

Born and raised in Blackwell, Texas, Pruit attended schools there. He married Maxine Watts in 1932 at Clovis, N.M. In 1934, they came to Carlsbad where he was employed at U.S. Potash from 1937 to 1949. He went into his own car dealership until his retirement in 1976.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Eddy Lodge no. 21, A.F.&A.M.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Pruit, Carlsbad; two sons, Lynn Pruit, Alamogordo, and Max Pruit, Las Cruces, N.M.; one daughter, Nancy Oliver, Albuquerque; one brother, J.B. Pruit, Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. W.E. Hellyer, Carlsbad, and Mrs. Horace Roberts, Lubbock, Texas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
