She was born Nov. 1, 1900, in Hilton, Nowland County, Texas, where she was raised and attended school. In 1920 she married William H. "Tucker" Hellyer in Blackwell, Texas. She moved to Carlsbad with her husband in 1928 and ranched for a time near the Guadalupe Mountains. While her husband was employed as the gatekeeper at McMillan Dam, they lived at Lakewood.
She moved to Carlsbad in 1973 following her husband's retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and while living in Lakewood, she was a member of the Lakewood Home Extension Club.
She is survived by her husband, William H. "Tucker" Hellyer, Carlsbad; one daughter, Wanda Pixler, Midland, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Horace Roberts, Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Cora Bell Hellyer, 85, 505 S. Cypress St., will be conducted in the West Funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Richard H. Whitwam of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.
Mrs. Hellyer died Oct. 4, 1986 in a local hospital.
Pallbearers will be, Clendon Roberts, Ralph Pruit, Kenneth Grady, Lynn Pruit, Max Pruit and Buck Oliver.
