The Library of Virginia has a collection #30873, titled McCutchan Family Bible Records. It contains some handwritten records about John and Eleanor's family. It lists John's name, dates and birth in Near Harrisonburg (sic), Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania and death in NEAR Lexington, Virginia. He was buried in the family plot at Cedar Grove Mills in Rockbridge Co. It gives data on his wife and their children.
His headstone (only) was removed by his kin and placed instead at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery in a vault. John's headstone was attached to a new base and used as the memorial stone or cenotaph. A new plaque with the names and dates of the buried stones are listed on John's memorial there, along with the name of this cemetery where his remains are.
