David Firebaugh was the son of John and Elizabeth Firebaugh. He married 1st to Margaret W. Hull and was widowed, and 2nd to Jane Eliza McCown..


This site is NOT A DUPLICATE. His remains are here but his headstone was improperly removed and placed elsewhere. His kin found the stones, recorded them and had the markers buried in a vault at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Rockbridge County. A memorial stone AKA cenotaph (at Bethesda) gives the names and dates on the stones and gives the location of the burial site (here). See

"Death of Mr. David Firebaugh. Mr David Firebaugh died at his home near Rockbridge Baths Saturday last, from the infirmaties of age. He was in his 88th year, and was the oldest member of Bethesday church at the Baths. The funeral took place Sunday morning from the church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Henry Miller, and the interment was made in the old FIrebaugh buryground near Cedar Grove. Mr. FIrebaugh was twice married. His first wife was a Miss Hull and his second wife a Miss McCown. Several children from each marriage survive. He also is survived by one half-sister and two half-brothers." HIs obit was published in the Lexington Gazette (Virginia), dated 13 Feb 1907 (see photo).


Is this the SAME David Firebaugh? See copy of original handwritten receipt found in family records. DO NOT REPRODUCE. It says: Received Nov. 6th 1861 of D. E. Strain Twelve Hundred Dollars for Twelve Hundred gallons of good rectified Whisky at my house for Johnson Younger & Otey, signed David Firebaugh. Johnson, Younger & Otey ran a business in Richmond, Virginia. D.E. Strain and a brother, sold local goods and sent them on the train to Richmond.
