Brother of Virginia Caroline Firebaugh (Mrs. John Youell Anderson), Robert Dunlap Firebaugh (wife, Sarah Jane Clemmer Firebaugh) and Sarah Cornelia Firebaugh (Mrs. Madison Harvey Bear);
Half-Brother (his Father's first wife was Elizabeth Whitmer Firebaugh) of Nancy Jane Firebaugh, Polly Mary Firebaugh, Benjamin Franklin Firebaugh, Catherine Ann Firebaugh, David Henry Firebaugh, John Firebaugh, Andrew Davidson Firebaugh, Elizabeth Firebaugh, Isabella a. Firebaugh, Henry A. Firebaugh, Samuel Angus Firebaugh and Rebecca Jane Firebaugh.
James Bolton Firebaugh worked as a farm laborer on his Father's farm in Rockbridge County, Virginia; when he was 17 years old, at the end of December 1862, James enlisted in the Confederate Army to fight in the Civil War.... he served in the Virginia 1st Cavalry Regiment, then Company H, Virginia 14th Cavalry Regiment.
When James was released from his duties at the end of the Civil War, he joined some of his other family members out in California, moving first to Visalia in Tulare County. There he met and married SARAH JANE CARDEN, on July 19, 1870. By 1880, James and Sarah and their three children were living in Kernville, Kern County, California.
The children of James and Sarah are James W. Firebaugh (wife, Florence Firebaugh), Eleanor Elizabeth Firebaugh (Mrs. Henry Michael Mulvahill) and Charles Edward Firebaugh (wife, Elva Ilona Hollingsworth Firebaugh).
In 1910, James and Sarah had moved up to Oregon to be close to their daughter and grandchildren; daughter Eleanor had moved with her husband to Oregon to operate a Dairy Farm.
By the 1920 census, James and Sarah are living in Mendocino County, on the coast of California, and are living next to their son Charles and his family and operating another Dairy Farm.
Sarah passed away in 1927; James remained in Covelo, Mendocino, living with son Charles and family.
James Bolton Firebaugh died October 26, 1930 and is buried by his wife at the Valley View Cemetery in Covelo.
James was a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. He is fondly remembered by all of the families and friends who loved him and by all of those who know of him.
