Mrs. Oma (Gerling) Huot was born April 9, 1885 at Goodnoe Hills, Washington. She died at Skyline Hospital, White Salmon, WA on April 8, 1970. Mrs. Huot was the only daughter of six children of Fred and Mary Gerling, early day ranchers on Rock Creek and at Goodnoe Hills. Contemporary neighbors were the Beeks, Chamberlain and Imrie families. A member of the original Christian Church of Goodnoe Hills, later moving to Pleasant valley and still later to Goldendale, she was baptized at the mouth of Rock Creeek at a time when the water was frozen over and the ice had to be broken. In 1904 she met and married Lincoln Huot. To their union was born 10 children, nine of whom survive. Mrs Huot resided at Chamberlain Flat until Mr. Huots death in 1944. In 1945 Mrs Huot moved to the Bingen area and was employed by the White House and the Mt. Adams Inn until she retired in 1965. One daughter, Frances Doughty, preceded her in death on Febuary 1, 1970. Other children are Leland Huot, Vancouver; Mary Barrett, Aberdeen; Gladys Powell and Verna Frey, Bingen; Roy Huot, Edna Frey and Vada Scott, Hood River; Dolly Barnes, Springfield, Oregon, and Etta Suksdorf, Gleed, Washington. Also surviving Mrs Huot are 36 grandchildren and 56 great grand children. Funeral services were held April 11, 1970 at Gardner's Funeral Chapel, White Salmon. William Frey,DD., grandson of Mrs. Huot, officiated at the services. Pall bearers were her grandsons, Carl Suksdorf, Fred Powell, Randy Huot, Don Barnes, Roger Holste and Ray Barnes. Interment ws at the IOOF Cemetery, Goldendale."
