Michael H. Stephens was born on April 17, 1863 in Hollidaysburg, Blair Co, Pennsylvania. His father Adam Stephan Stephens b1813 was 49 and his mother Caroline Potter Stevens was 42. His birth date is recorded in the Londonderry, Penns Church Records where he was Baptized in Bedford Co, Penns on Jul 12, 1863. He eventually had four brothers and four sisters - one of which is this writers grandfather Joseph as listed below. His father Adam suffered a stroke in 1869 and ended up in the Cambria Co. Penns. Poorhouse where we find young Michael at age 7 on the 1870 Census. He next appears working on a farm for the Hite Family in Juniata Twp of Blair Co.,Penns. on the 1880 Census. Next stop for Michael was living on Indiana Street in Philadelphia in 1890 near his Older sister Elizabeth (listed below & her Husband - James Whartenby). By 1900 Michael has moved on to Prescott, Arizona where we find him living alone with no stated 0ccupation. In 1906 his mother Caroline Stevens, who changed the spelling of the name, passed away and this must have affected him greatly. In 1910 Michael is now an Imate at the State Mental Institution in Tacoma, Washington State just 30 miles from where this writer was born & raised. For whatever reason, perhaps something to do with the trauma he experienced as a child, he continued to spend the rest of his life in Mental Institutions and by 1920 he is in Sedro Wooley, Wash at the State Mental Hospital some 50 miles north of Seattle. Michael Stephan passed away on May 19, 1921 in Sedro Wooley, Washington at the age of 58. He was buried in the State Hospital Cemetery and has no known descendents or immediate family 0ther than 'Cousins' in the Stephan / Stephens families.
