"Gottlieb Lobe, a well-known farmer of the Odessa country, died at his home 8 miles southwest of town last Wednesday evening from cancer of the stomach with which he had been suffering for some time. The funeral services were held this morning from the Hoffungsberger church, near the Andrew Janke place, 14 miles south of town, and interment was made in that cemetery. The funeral services were in charge of the pastor, Rev Gottleib Riegert. Deceased was born in Kulm, South Russia, in 1851. He was married in 1873, at the age of 22, to Miss Justina Kulm and to this union four children were born, two of whom, Mrs Henry Derr and Gustav Lobe, both of this place, survive him. His first wife died in 1885. He was afterward married to Miss Wilhelmina Gross, and to this union seven children were born, two of whom preceded him in death. The surviving children are Mrs Edward Radach of Warden, Mrs Daniel Haase of Odessa, Mrs John Speck of Odessa, and Nathanial and Johannes Lobe, both of Odessa. In March, 1898, he emigrated to America with his family, settling on a homestead near Ritzville, where he lived for three years. In 1901 he sold his farm place there and bought the place south of Odessa where he resided until his death, when he was aged 62 years, 8 months and 29 days. Besides the widow and children which survive him, he leaves relatives in Ritzville and Valleyford, WA, and in South Dakota." (Odessa Record-Aug 28, 1914)
