J. C. Pickens, Aged 79 Years, Passes Away at Home of Daughter
John C. Pickens, age 79 years, a prominent and highly respected citizen, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. A. Weller of North Sixth street, at 8:45 o'clock Friday evening. Death was sudden and was due to heart trouble. He was in his usual good health until early Friday morning when he was stricken, but a slight improvement was noticed during the day, but was again stricken in the evening and his death quickly followed.
The deceased was born in Cincinnati and moved to Zanesville 28 years ago. He was engaged in the grocery business for a number of years and later represented the Weller company as salesman.
Mr. Pickens formerly resided on Ridge avenue, but since the death of his wife, six years ago, he has been making his home with his daughter.
He was a faithful member of the Grace M. E. Church and a man highly honored by every one who knew him.
Five children survive: Mrs. Sa. A. Weller, William A. Pickens and Edward Pickens of this city; Mrs. Henrietta Gochenour of Mt. Summit, Ind. and Mrs. George L. West of Charlerol, Pa. A brother, Amos Pickens of Columbus, died three months ago.
The funeral services will be conducted from the Weller residence at 10 o'clock Monday morning, Rev. Mr. Strucker, pastor of the Grace M. E. Church officiating. Interment will be made in Woodlawn cemetery and will be private.
