Columbus was the second child and oldest son of Reddick and Mahala Eason. He married Sallie Jones approximately 1904 and they had one child, Columbus C. Eason, Jr. Sallie died in 1918 and she's buried in Fisher's Hill Cemetery Complex at Mt. calvary, Portsmouth, Virginia. Columbus was enlisted in the United States Navy as "Officers Cook" and after his discharge in the thirties, a cook at the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA.

His siblings were Annie L. Eason Miller, Ruth V. Eason Sawyer Sharpe, Katie E. Eason Langston Bogan, Reddick Miller, Jr. and Charles Henry Eason. A sister named Arbari died in 1883 as a toddler. He was called "Lum" by his siblings and "Uncle Lum" by his nieces and nephews. He is buried to the left of Sallie's grave.
