Wife of Congressman Hugh Peterson, sister of US Senator Richard B. Russell, Jr., and daughter of Georgia Chief Justice Richard B. Russell, Sr. Known familiarly as "Miss Pat", she attended the Georgia Normal and Industrial College (now Georgia College and State University) in Milledgeville. She was appointed to the Georgia Board of Regents in 1970 and served one term. She was active in civic affairs and patriotic organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of American Colonists, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Magna Carta Dames, and Colonial Dames of America.
