Alexander founded the Russell Nursing Home in Winder and served on the state Board of Medical Examiners for many years. He served a term in the Georgia General Assembly in 1970. He was also mayor of Winder for 40 years.
While there is a memorial to Alexander in Russell Memorial Cemetery, Winder, his body was donated to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
