Born in Suwannee Co., Florida, Trim was raised in the post Civil War era on a farm situated next to the Suwannee River that locals called "Norris Shoals." It's not on the map today as such, but his father operated a ferry across the river for travelers and also farmed the land, so the local name let everyone know who lived there. His mother was a midwife/country doctor who traveled about in an ox-drawn cart while smoking a corncob pipe, tending the country folk as best she could. Her husband sold herbs that she grew to the locals to help supplement income. She raised her many children alone after her husband died when Trim was about 10 years old. Trim had little formal education, but he was one of the smartest men I ever knew. He knew what time of day it was without ever owning a watch just by looking toward the heavens. He knew how to judge weather patterns and when to successfully plant a large vegetable patch with only the sweat of his brow and his old push plow to get it all done. He raised free ranging chickens, so there was always fresh eggs and vegetables from the garden. He drew water with a hand pump from a well he had dug himself. The grass around his house was cropped down to keep out snakes and other "varmints" with something he referred to as a "lively lad." I later found that the name of the instrument was actually "swing blade," but I still call it a lively lad. Verlon died at any early age, leaving Trim to finish bringing up two teenage boys, the only surviving children of the six that he and Verlon had. He never remarried. His was a hard life in trying times, but he seldom complained about anything. He was a caring grandfather and a fine man. He is missed.

Children: Thomas Owen, H.T., Jr.; James Jesse Norris
Grandchildren: 2 living grandchildren, Henrietta Norris.

Trim and Verlon moved from Branford, FL to Gotha in 1924. Many of Trim's relatives still live in Columbia and Suwannee Counties.
