OBITUARY-- Bernard "Bernie" Burch Jr.

Bernard "Bernie" Burch, Jr., 69, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 20 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines with burial at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Orilla. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bernie was self-employed as a truck driver and married Rose Blalock in 1960. He enjoyed the great outdoors which included camping, fishing, and gardening. Bernie will be remembered as one who volunteered his time and talents to those who needed it and he enjoyed spending time with his family on vacations.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; son, Bernard Burch, III; parents: Bernard Sr. and Doris Fenton; and siblings: Dorene Burch, Pauline Legg, Dorothy Brown, Betty Grabill, and Paul Burch.

Bernie is survived by his children: Judy Burch, Wayne (Cynthia) Burch, Cathy Burch, Debra (Rick) Smith and Sharee (Jason) Grubb; twenty grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and siblings: Bob Burch, Wayne Burch, Jerry Burch, Joe Burch, Fran Thompson, Ruth Peacock, and Marge McBurney.
