He was first married to Gladys Spraker. They had several children: Marie (youngest), Frieda, Mildred, Joyce, Ruth, Floyd, Jr. (died at 1 year old) and Boyd (died at the age of 4 with spinal menegitis), and Tommy.
As a young man, Floyd worked in the coal mines in Gilliam, West Virginia with his brothers and some cousins. They all moved back to Virginia, built their homes and raised a family around 1935.
Once separated he moved to Syracuse, NY and then to South Dakota and worked as a carpenter for the Parks and Recreation department, for the railroad.

Deadwood (South Dakota)-Services for Floyd Vachel Winesett, 77, are scheduled Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wells-Ruth Funeral Home with the Rev. Timothy Ashley, Northern Hills Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Roubaix Cemetery.
Winesett died Wednesday at this home outside of Deadwood. He was born May 10, 1898 to Samuel and Permelia Winesett in Monorat (now Woodlawn), Va.
He was a carpenter, miner, and railroad employee. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Fraternal Order of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; two sons, two brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include eight children, Freida LaFaro, New York, Mildred Toler (Newman), (Richmond), VA, Joyce Nagel, California, (Patricia)Ruth Licitra, New York, Mrs. Lewis (Beverly) Dobbs, Deadwood, Mrs. Jerry (Betty) Murray of Lead; two sons, Tommy Winesett, New York, and Norris Haas (Jr.), Chicago; 37 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; five brothers and four sisters.
