Herald Coaster, November 30, 1966:

Funeral services for Melvin Kettler, 54, of Needville were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville. Rev. Ed Weltge officiated.

Mr. Kettler passed away in the Polly Ryon Hospital Monday morning after a short illness.

He served on the consistory of Immanuel United Church of Christ. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, charter member of the Needville Lions Club with 20 years perfect attendance, a member of the Needville Fire Department, the Needville Quarterback Club, Chamber of Commerce, Sons of Herman and Live Oak Club of Needville.

Among the survivors are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Kettler of Needville; his mother, Mrs. Emma Kettler of Needville; a daughter, Miss Diane Kettler of Needville; a son, Terrence Kettler of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Mrs. Florine Eversole of Bay City, Mrs. Hulda Leissner of Damon and Mrs. Viola Kapalski of West Columbia; four brothers, Herbert Kettler of Needville, Alvin Kettler of Needville, Charlie Kettler of Rosenberg and Henry Kettler of Needville; and a grandson, Kevin Kettler of Phoenix, Arizona.

Pallbearers were Herbert Hartfiel, Woodrow Jackson, Mariano Cario, Walter Bothe, Charles Steffen, Johnny Kasparek, Monroe Muesse and Ervin Blase. Honorary pallbearers were Needville merchants.

Burial was in the Greenlawn Memorial Park. Funeral services were under the direction of Garmany and Co. Funeral Directors.
