Ezekiel Fields was one of eleven children born to Sam Sony and Sarah Fields in Campbell, Virginia on December 22, 1790.

According to the 1813 court records the Fields children were born free. On August 14, 1820 he married Mary Scott daughter of Joseph Scott and one child, Miles is recorded born to this union.

Sometime after 1828 Ezekiel Fields moved to the southern part of Ohio where he worked as a day labor and a circuit minister around Ross and Pike Counties. Elder Fields name appears on several marriage licenses in Ross County during that time period.

On July 16,1837 he married Zelphia (Elizabeth) Jones and to this marriage five children are recorded (David, Warren, Robert, Leanora, Joshua).

After moving to Franklin County he became a member of First Baptist Church and served the newly formed Second Baptist Church as pastor until Rev. James Pointdexter was called.

He continued to reside in the Clinton Township in Columbus until his death.

Ezekiel was disinterred from Litchford Cemetery when his remained were discovered when Upper Arlington High School was building a new high school and reinterred 9 July 1946 to Section 86 Lot 57 Space 5 of Green Lawn with his son, Joshua Elsworth Fields, Sr.
