Archie Nation, 64, of Traer, died suddenly last Saturday, May 26, at 12:30 p.m., in Schoitz Memorial hospital at Waterloo, where he had been taken that morning by the Traer Ambulance service. He had been in ill health in recent months. He was born April 6, 1907, on a farm near Traer, the son of Walter and Bessie Nation. He farmed as a young man and he owned and operated a cafe in Montour for several years, about 15 years ago. Surviving him are a son, Arnold Lynn, and three grandchildren, all of Lathrop, California; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Nation, 416 First street in Traer; two brothers, Roger of rural Traer, and Donald of Waterloo; and three sisters, Mrs. Harry C. Johannsen of La Porte City, Mrs. Elliott Smith of Hudson, and Mrs. Leland Philp of Traer, and numerous nephews and nieces. The son, Lynn, is a sergeant first class in the Army in California and was sent home on emergency leave because of his father's death, with the help of the home service chairman of the North Tama Red Cross chapter at Traer. He was given a furlough of 15 days with his grandmother in Traer. The funeral services were held at the Erickson Funeral home in Traer, Tuesday afternoon, May 29, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Dieken, pastor of the United Presbyterian church. Mrs. A. J. Calderwood was the soloist, with Mrs. Leroy Whannel at the organ. Pallbearers were Larry Nation, Douglas Johannsen, James Johannsen, Harlan and Edward Smith and Virgil Nation. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Logan and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Manfull of Traer were in charge of flowers. Interment was in Buckingham cemetery. Archie was preceded in death by his father, Walter Nation, and by two brothers, Dale and W. Bryce Nation.
