FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Laura Knapp Short, 85, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010. She was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Fullerton, Neb., to the late Edwin and Rose Knapp. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Meshaw and husband Rick of Lafayette, Ind., and Debbie Uzzell and husband Chuck of Jacksonville; two sons, Samuel Edwin Short and wife Carol of Fayetteville, and Jim Short and wife Nancy of Durham; three sisters, Betty D'Arcy of Orange, Calif., Evelyn Evers of Fullerton, Neb., and Georgia Peterson of Grand Island, Neb.; a brother, Carl Knapp of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Cory Meshaw of Wilmington, Kelly Moser and husband Trey of Winston-Salem, Lauren Uzzell of Raleigh, Michael Uzzell of Jacksonville, Amber Short of Huntsville, Ala., Kolton Wade of Greensboro, Amanda Wade of Raleigh, Melissa Smith and husband Bowman of Fayetteville, and Brian Short and wife Valerie of Cary; seven great-grandchildren; a nephew, Bill Maness of Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Floyd Short; and brother Lyle Knapp. Laura was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Haymount United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, in Haymount United Methodist Church, officiated by Dr. Woody Wells. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday before the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Haymount United Methodist Church Building Fund at 1700 Fort Bragg Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303. Arrangements made by Rogers & Breece Funeral Home.
