Coroner Wayne Fisher today issued subpenas for five Madison and Sun Prairie men after Dr. Earl Cobb, 74, Sun Prairie, died Sunday at a Madison hospital where he was taken, after being injured in an auto accident on Highway 19 two miles west of Sun Prairie Thursday night. Dr. Cobb, who was a Sun Prairie dentist, was riding in a car driven by Theron G. Stone, co-publisher of the Sun Prairie Countryman, when the car ran into the rear of a threshing rig tank pulled by a tractor. Ernest Ward, 42, Sun Prairie, driver of the tractor, was uninjured. Besides Stone and Ward, subpoenas have been issued for Solon W. Pierce, 34, Stone's partner, Don Achterberg of Sun Prairie, and Ed Heberlein, 316 VV. Wilson st. Achterberg and Heberlein witnessed the crash while Pierce was riding with Stone and Dr. Cobb. Dr. M. E. Wyatt of Sun Prairie, who attended Dr. Cobb, said the dentist died of a skull fracture suffered in the accident Thursday. Fisher said no verdict would be reached until after a thorough investigation. Dr. Cobb lived his entire life in Sun Prairie. He was a member of the Sun Prairie Masonic Lodge, an officer of the Methodist Church, treasurer of the village school board, a member of the Sun Prairie Bowling league, a former secretary of the Lion's Club, and a member of the Garden Club. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Jones and Tuschen Funeral Home, with the Rev. R. P. Steen, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Arthur W. Quan, Madison, will officiate at Masonic services held under the auspices of the Sun Prairie lodge. There will be an honorary escort of Eastern Star members. Burial will be at Sun Prairie. Dr. Cobb is survived by his widow, five daughters, Mrs. A. E. Atwater of LeMatrine, Mrs. Dalhle of Lakeside, CT, Madge Hillenbrand of Milwaukee, Mrs. C. A. Brown of Milwaukee, and Mrs. C. J. Dott of Markesan; two sons, Rollin C. Cobb of Owensboro, KY and Vernon Cobb, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Sam Denny of Sceptre, Sask., Canada, Mrs. Edna Page of Boriners Ferry, ID, Mrs. Grace Lazier of Chicago, and Mrs. Ida Emerson of Prentice, and several grandchildren.
