CISSNA PARK — Lester L. "Babe" Longfellow, 79, of Cissna Park, died at 3:02 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Hoopeston, a son of Earl and Lota Wagner Longfellow.
He married Mary Frances Scott on July 14, 1951, in Hoopeston. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Lester L. Longfellow of St. Louis, Mo., Randall L. Longfellow of Indianapolis and and Stanley M. Longfellow of Cissna Park; two daughters, Rhonda K. Longfellow of Hoopeston and DiAnna Dee Cornelius of Hoopeston; a sister, Maxine Hudspeth of Lafayette, Ind.; five grandchildren, Michelle, Dale, Todd, Megan and Scott; two great-grandchildren, Bodyn and Maya; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Babe was a grinder at the John Deere Foundry for over 40 years. He was a farmer and raised livestock in Cissna Park for over 55 years.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Brown-Alkire Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Polson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Citizens for Animal Rescue and Adoption (C.A.R.A.) animal shelter in Tilton.
