Earl 'Jiggs' Bennett March 10, 1920-Nov. 30, 1994
Earl "Jiggs" Bennett of Philomath died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 74.
He was born in Falls City to Robert and Francis (Harris) Bennett, one of 13 children. When he was 5 years old he came to stay with his grandparents in Philomath and never left. He attended Philomath schools but started working at an early age. He worked many years in the logging industry and was a well-known heavy equipment operator. From 1967 until he retired in 1985 he worked for Consumers Power Inc. in Corvallis as a right-of-way agent. He married Maxine Moore in Vancouver, Wash., on Feb. 10, 1940.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and was an avid OSU sports fan, especially enjoying football. He was a member of Corvallis Elks Lodge No. 1413 and a former member of the Benton County Shriners.
He was preceded in death by brothers Richard and Roy Bennett and sisters Argil, Hazel and Lavora.
He is survived by his wife Maxine; a son, Lanny Bennett of Lake Owego; brothers Carl, Marvin, Ron and Ray Bennett, all of Philomath, and Ted Bennett of Corvallis; sisters Marvelle Christianson of Philomath and Roberta Barnhouse of Corvallis; and one grandson.
A visitation with family greeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at McHenry Funeral Home. Private burial will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by McHenry Funeral Home.
