Dorothy Worley "Dottie" Kay, 89, of Troy, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, in a Temple hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the First Baptist Church in Troy with the Rev. Paul W. Powell officiating and the Rev. Bruce Burleson and the Rev. Harlan Haines assisting. Burial will follow at Roberts Cemetery in Troy. Visitation with the family will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.

The seventh of nine children, Dorothy was born in Rockdale, Texas,to the late Frank W. and Freda (Doss) Worley. She grew up on the family farm in San Gabriel and in later years would recall how her love of nature grew from her experience on that farm. She married H. D. Kay Jr. on March 29, 1941, in Rockdale and together they shared 62 years of marriage. Dorothy was active in her church, and cheerfully and generously volunteered her time and talents to a variety of different concerns. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Troy where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was also an active member of the Troy Senior Trojans for many years. She gave her time to a number of volunteer activities over the years. Her most recent volunteer activities at the Temple VAMC Domiciliary and Churches Touching Lives for Christ (CTLC) continued until only a few weeks ago. She was a woman with strong faith and a generous spirit who loved her family deeply and befriended others with ease.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003; son, Ronald Worley Kay; grandson, Ronald Paul Elkins; three sisters; and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Kennedy and husband, Carl, of Temple, Kathy Kay, of Temple, and Marsha Kay Green and husband, Heyward, of Waco; grandson, Joe Shafer and wife, Carmella, of College Station; granddaughters, Kellie Vogt and husband, Rudy, of Louisville, Ky., Julie McDonough and husband, Casey, of Edmond, Okla., Valeri Pineo and husband, Paul, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Holly Olsen, of Denver, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Lula Stewart, of Cameron, Mary Nell Cherry, of New Waverly, and Evelyn Kauffman and husband, Norman, of Texarkana.
