Sweeny, Tex. (UP) -- Aroused citizens of the small town of Sweeney, Texas, are assisting officers for the prowler whose attacked on a 30-year-old woman Tuesday night resulted in her death. A lone negro suspect in the case is being held in the county jail at Angleton. No charges have been filed and no concrete evidence uncovered. Mrs. Jack Andrew Felton, was the victim of a shotgun blast which was fired by a neighbor and which was intended for her attacker. Mrs. Felton's screams aroused a neighbor man, who fired his shotgun in the darkness at a figure he detected leaving the Felton house by a window. It was Mrs. Felton, apparently in a desparate attempt to escape the attacker. She was struck by the shotgun blast in the chest and abdomen and died within a few minutes. Sweetwater Reporter, July 27, 1944
