John Gideon Rothrock was the eldest of two known children of Wiliam Immanuel (went by Emanuel?) Rothrock (1824-1857) and Susan (went by Sue) A. Coley Rothrock Styers (1826-1898), who married 13 Dec 1853 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. After Emanuel died, Sue remarried to John Alexander (or Abram) Styers (1816-1892) on 13 Jan 1870 at Forsyth County, North Carolina and had an additional six known children. It is not known where Emanuel is buried.

John married Lucinda Mariah Lawrence (1857-1927) on 24 Dec 1876 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. John and Lucinda were the parents of twelve known children, namely:

2. Edward Lee Rothrock (1879-1939)
3. Daisy Viola Rothrock Williamson (1881-1937)
