John Willis Rothrock was the eldest of twelve known children of John Gideon Rothrock (1854-1929) and Lucinda Mariah Lawrence (1857-1927), who married 24 Dec 1876 at Forsyth County, North Carolina.

John first married to Jennie Florence Smith (1877-190)on 24 Jan 1897 at Davie County, North Carolina. It is not known where Jennie is buried. John and Jennie were the parents of three known children, namely:

1. Bessie R. Rothrock (1898-p1910)
2. May B. Rothrock (1900-p1910)
3. infant child Rothrock (???-???)

Bessie and May were living with their father and stepmother in 1910 at Elkhorn, McDowell County, North Carolina. Nothing else is known of Bessie or May.

After Jennie died, John remarried to Martha (went by Mattie) Louise Compton (1880-1952) on 16 Dec 1909 at Tazewell County, Virginia. Mattie was thought to be half American Indiana by ancestry. John and Mattie were the parents of two known children, namely:

4. Virginia Lillian Rothrock Bell (1912-2001)
5. Margaret L. Rothrock Taylor (1917-1985)
