Services for Chester T. "Doc" Jackson, 82, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kelly Carnes and the Rev. Don Chapin officiating.

Burial will follow in Shelby Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Jackson died Oct. 20, 2012, in Athens with his sons at his side.

He was born July 1, 1930, in Murchison to the late Nevett Monroe and Myrtle Estelle Baker Jackson and had been a lifelong resident of the county.

Following graduation from Athens High School in 1950, he enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard Reserve. He was an excellent marksman and earned the rank of sergeant. After being honorably discharged, he met and married Mitzie Boyd. They shared 31 years together. Doc was a farmer, rancher and a long-distance truck driver. His travels covered all of the 48 continental United States. He was a member of Ash Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Birdie Mae Jackson; infant son, Monte Lynn Jackson; grandson, Sean Ryan Jackson; and brother, George Jackson.

Survivors include his children, Nancy White, Garland, Steve Jackson and Michael Charters, Kaufman, Rodney Jackson and wife Jeana, Athens; grandchildren, Alana
White, Katelynn White, Karlee Jackson, Colton Jackson; brothers, Jamie Jackson and wife Loy, Jody Jackson and wife Deborah; sister, Christine Everett; numerous
nephews and nieces; and stepchildren, Sheila Atkins, Alton Cotten and Charles McGuire.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of food and flowers, family requests memorials be made to Ash Baptist Church or Shelby Chapel Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at West Place Center for the care given to Chester the past year.
