George W. Henley, 94, Chelsea, passed away July 27, 2005. George was born in Chelsea on June 3, 1911,the 8th. son of Elijah and Bertie (Baker) Henley. In his younger years, he worked on his father's farm, woodland, and sawmill. In 1932, he married Beatrice Beck, his faithful and loving wife for 73 years. He then worked on his own farm and woodland. He was well-known by many, as he dealt in cattle; and bought, cut, and sold Christmas trees for many, many years.
George was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church, which he attended regularly. He was also Honourary Member of the Chelsea Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife; son, Mervin (Madeline); daughter, Genevieve (Virgil); daughter-in-law, Emily (Harold); 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brothers, Borden (Mildred); Irving (Fayette); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Harold; sister, Ida; son-in-law, Virgil Bond; brothers, Hazen (Carrie), Ken (Mae), Ed (Izora), Avon (Edith), Harry, Walter (Mabel), Purl (Myrtle), and Nahum.
Family visitation was at Sweeny's Funeral Home. Funeral service was held July 30, at Chelsea Baptist Church, with Rev. John Kaulback officiating. Organist, Ramona Weagle, and choir, sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Mansion Over the Hilltop." Private family interment in Maple Grove Cemetery.
