Frank John Blau, the son of Joseph Blau and Anna Brueckl, was born in Franklin Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin. His mother died two years later, in 1898. Frank was taken to his aunt Mary Blau's house to live. Mary and her first husband Daniel George Brueckl adopted Frank. Daniel Brueckl died in 1900. Mary remarried to John L. Ruhland (who died in 1905). Mary remarried a third time (in 1905) to George Brey Sr, a widow with several children. Frank Blau grew up in this household.
At age 20, Frank started farming on his own in Franklin Township in Sauk County, Wisconsin. Frank married Rosina Mary Ruhland on January 29, 1919, at St. Luke Catholic Church (then located in the upper level of Bettinger's grocery store) in Plain, Sauk County, Wisconsin. They farmed several years in Franklin Township until about 1936 when they moved to a farm near Merrimac in Caledonia Township, Columbia County, Wisconsin. In 1964, Frank and Rose Blau donated a 7800-pound marble sculpture made in Italy of the Holy Family to a shrine at Durward's Glen.
Frank and Rose had eleven children: Florence, Edwin, Leo, Charles, Mary, Joseph, Rose Ann, Alvin, John, Leonard and Luke. They also took in a boy (Ladislav Kout) from a State School in Sparta, Wisconsin, in April 1922 when he was twelve years old.
Frank was a member of St. Camillus Catholic Church in Durward's Glen, and of the Dr. C. W. Henney Knights of Columbus Council 1637.
Frank, who resided at the Sauk County Health Care Center, died at age 83 on Sunday, April 15, 1979, at the University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held on April 18, 1979, at St. Camillus Catholic Church, Durward's Glen. Reverend Raoule Thiebault officiated. Burial was at St. Mary's of the Pine's Cemetery in Durward's Glen.
