Mr. Willard Russell Whited, age 74, of Raven, Virginia passed away Tuesday (September 14, 2010) at his home. Born April 6, 1936 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Felix Jerome and Elizabeth Hess Whited. A United States Army veteran, he was of the Christian faith. He was a disabled coal miner, having worked for forty-two years and was a member of the UMWA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Wilma Jean Whited, one son, Tommy Wayne Whited, step-mother, Maggie Sparks Whited, five sisters, Polly Whited, Sarah Gratton, Linda Brown Gibson, Lucy Boyd, and Doris McGhee, and eight brothers, Glen, Berkley, Andy, Leo, Fullton, Walter, Jerome, and Tommy Whited.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Ruby Whited of the home; one son, Russell Whited of Richlands; five grandchildren, Nicole Whited, Keisha Whited, Elizabeth Green, Amanda Whited, and Dale "D.J." Jeter; three great-grandchildren, Kendra Mullins, Shyla Mullins, and Lelin Mullins; two sisters, Billie Jean Wilson and husband, Jack of Raven and Joyce Compton of Peapatch; three brothers, Abe Whited of Tazewell, Roger Whited and wife, Nina of Raven, and Junior Boyd and wife, Judy of Swords Creek; special brothers-in-law, David Plaster, Larry Plaster and wife, Tammy, and Jerry Plaster; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dennis White and Rev. Phillip Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Plaster Cemetery at Pine Creek, Virginia.
Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Mongo Miller, Tim Boyd, Raleigh Whited, Tony McGhee, Bill Whited, and Jim Boyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Whited and Bobby Boyd.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday.
