Mr. Walter Raleigh Whited, age 82, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at the home of his son in Hardy, Va. Born Dec. 28, 1926, in Swords Creek, he was a son of the late Felix Jerome and Elizabeth Hess Whited. He had spent most of his life in the Swords Creek area and was of the Pentecostal faith. A U.S. Army veteran, he was also a retired coal miner, having been employed by Pittston Coal Co., and was a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dulcie Ellen Boyd Whited; one daughter, Judy Ellen Marshall; one son, Jerry Alvin Whited; one granddaughter, Abby Gail Brewster; and brothers and sisters, Charles Fullen Whited, Polly Rose Whited, Andy Whited, Sarah Gratin, Leo Howard Whited, Thomas Robert Whited, Berkley Henry Whited, Glen Whited, Lucy Ellen Boyd, Linda Ruth Gibson and Doris Ann McGhee. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Deel and husband Glenn of Raven and Tammy Perkins and husband Johnny of Honaker; three sons, Raleigh Junior Whited and wife Rita and Billy Walter Whited and wife Hazel, all of Swords Creek, and Randel Lee Whited and wife Margaret of Hardy; one son-in-law, Sonny Rolf Marshall of Maryland; brothers and sisters, Felix Jerome Whited Jr. of Doran, Willard Russell Whited and Billie Jean Wilson, both of Raven, Junior Boyd of Swords Creek, Joyce Compton of Peapatch, Robert Lee Whited of Raven and Darrell Albert Whited of Tazewell; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his special caregivers, Randel and Margaret Whited.
