Alice Larson Was Good Mother by Hattie Crane
Many relatives, friends and former neighbors attended funeral services for Alice Tolman Larson, held Burley LDS First ward, Wednesday, Sept 26. Bishop Oscar Peterson officiated.
Pallbearers were Mrs Larson's sons, Fred Larson, Lloyd Larson, Sidney Larson, Ross Larson, Leslie Larson and Osburn Larson.
Flower-girls were granddaughters-- Dona Rae Larson, Mary Larson, Linda Lee Larson, Renee Larson, Joyce Larson, Pamela Sorensen, Cherrie Walker, Connie Walker, Patricia Ann Heiner, and Sandra Larson, assisted by Mrs Fay Strom and Mrs Mary Popham.
Lloyd Larson offered prayer at the mortuary, Edna Church played the prelude and postlude. Ivan Moyes and Marva Peterson sang a duet. A L Egbert gave the invocation. Then came the obituary and remarks by Bishop Oscar Peterson. A ladies' chorus (Delva Hanks, Rachel Ham, Lucille Lyons, Gladys Hansen, Fay Strom, Evelyn Vawdrey) sang Come, Come, Ye Saints." Bishop Isaac Lee spoke. Virginia Freestone and Inez Steinmetz sang Beyond the Sunset.
President John A Clark, Oakley, spoke.
The ladies' chorus sang Peace I Leave with You. Lawrence Tolman gave the benediction. Ruby Bedke was the accompanist.
Bishop Fred Larson dedicated the grave in Oakley cemetery.
Mrs Larson was born Oct 1 1883, Marion, Idaho, a daughter of J Alvin and Mary Jane Gorringe Tolman. She was married in the LDS temple, Salt Lake City, to Frederick Larson. Born to them were 14 children. Two preceded her in death, also her husband.
Funeral services were arranged according to Mrs Larson's wishes. She had requested the speakers to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints rather than praise her unduly. She had lived a life of service, a good mother and faithful Latter-day Saint. Only good things could be said of her. Remarks heard were such as "Alice was a beautiful woman and a good soul."

The first speaker, Bishop Lee had been her bishop. He said he cherished and appreciated the imtimacies he had shared with Mrs Larson. He knew her as a beauatiful soul, noble and faithful to ideals of the gospel she cherished.
President clark, second speaker, said he felt this wasn't a sad day. She had lived a good life, fulfilled her mission, and had now gone to rest, to greet her husband and other loved ones who had gone before. President Clark told of how, when he was a young man, chosen to be bishop of Oakley Fourth ward in 1929, one evening he was called to the Larson home. The father had died suddenly. Sister Larson, surrounded by her 12 young children, was comforting them. He told of how Mrs Larson was soothing the heartbroken children with words like this: "The Lord must have wanted your father or He wouldn't have taken him. He will take care of us."
That faith was the force by which she carried on to the be father and mother to her brood of "12." She was rewarded to see them grow to honorable manhood and womanhood.
He reminded the children of their heritage both on the Larson and Tolman side The Larsons had come from Sweden for the gospel Both families had been valiant, faithful Latter-day Saints, and the children could make their mother happy by living lives that would do her honor.
