Rosalie Adolphine Huffman was born in Atlanta, Georgia, October 30, 1846, and departed this life May 13 at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 13 days. When a small child she moved with her parents to New Orleans, Louisiana, where her girlhood days were spent. It was during the Civil War that she met Capt. Orin Austin Avery to whom she was married on May 24, 1866.

Mr Avery's home being in Corrinth, Vermont, it was there that they spent the first year of their life together. Later they moved to Cobden, Illinois. Then they moved to Beatrice, Nebr., where Mr Avery, was engaged in the mercantile business trading mostly with the Indians.

In 1876 they took a claim, homesteading between Sutton and Edgar. Two years later they moved to Edgar which has been their home for the remaining years of their lives. Mr Avery departed this life October 1, 1911. To this union was born five children; Clarence R., George H., and Robert L., who preceded their mother in death. Carrie C. Jackson and Willard S. Avery of Edgar are left to mourn her loss.

Early in life she joined the Presbyterian Church of New Orleans which faith she has always held.

She left her beautiful home in the south to share with her husband the trials and hardships of our pioneers.

The funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Carrie C. Jackson, Thursday, May 15, 1930, at one * m. Rev T. S. Hughes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church had charge of the service. The singers were composed of the Presbyterian Church male quartette and a solo by Mrs. Elizabeth J. Hughes, She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Edgar Cemetery.
