Mildred S. Bates, 98, of 1901 S. Holly Ave., died Monday, Oct. 10, 1994, at Bethany Nursing Home in Sioux Falls. Mildred Stoops was born March 19, 1896, in Adeline, Ill. She moved with her family to Dedham, Iowa, and later to Sioux Falls, where she attended Washington High School. She married Everett Bates April 3, 1916, in Sioux Falls. He died Aug. 1, 1960. They made their home in Sioux Falls, where she was a homemaker. She worked at the air base in Sioux Falls during World War II. She later worked as a child-care provider. She was a member of the Barber's Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons: Bernard and Richard, both of Sioux Falls; two daughters: Mrs. Dorothy Shafer of Lubbock, Texas, and Mrs. Ethlyn Leao of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Linwood Wesleyan Church, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.
