Ella Edwards

Mary Louella, daughter of Isaac and Lydia Lazenby, was born August 8, 1885, near Fairield, Iowa, and passed away at the Allen County Hospital, Iola, on January 27, 1971, at the age of 85 years, five months and 19 days. Ella, as she was known to everyone was baptized in the Methodist Church as a small girl. She was united in marriage to Fredrick M. Edwards, September 4, 1902 at Leon, Iowa. They lived in Iowa and Nebraska before moving to a farm near Centerville in 1913. They moved to the present farm, 7 miles north and 2 miles west of Yates Center in 1918.

After the death of her husband in 1933 she continued to make a home for her children until they all married and made their own homes. She lived alone until 1940 when her son Arthur moved back and took over the farm and she continued to make her home there until her recent illness. To this union nine children were born, two that died in infancy. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, one daughter, one son, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, and one stepson.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Giberson, Stockport, Iowa, Mr. Golda Moore, Detroit, Mich.; six sons, Gail of Gridley, Floyd and Hugh of Fredonia, Art of Yates Center, Raymond of El Dorado, Ralph of Springfield, Mo; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Ehrhardt of Greensburg; one stepson Oather of Jefferson City, Mo.; six daughters-in-law, one son-in-law; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, numerous friends and neighbors.

Funeral services in her memory were held rom the Campbell Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. January 29th with Rev. Max C. DeWese officiating. Soloist Richard Mulsow, accompanied by Virginia Louderbaugh, sang "God's Tomorrow" and "Sunrise Tomorrow." Pallbearers were Fred Edwards, Arthur Edwards, Jr., Jim Edwards, Donald R. Edwards, Wayne Ehrhardt and Mike Hamman. Burial in the Askren Cemetery.
